Obituary: WILLIAM “BILLY” MARTIN

William “Billy” Martin, 85, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, January 15, 2024, at Lakeview Memorial Park Mausoleum with Pastor Larry Andrews officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, January 13, 2024, from 6-8:00PM and other times at the home of his son, Roger Martin.
Billy was born in Guilford County to the late William Norman Martin, Sr. and Edna Rickard Martin. He retired from Lorillard Tobacco company where he was known as “Slim”. Billy was also a lifelong farmer in the Brown Summit community. He was a hard worker and a devoted family man who especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He never met a stranger and everyone became a friend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Sue Martin; granddaughter, Sarah Martin; daughter-in-law, Tanya Martin; and brother, Kenneth Martin.
Billy is survived by his son’s, Roger Martin (Dina) and Scott Martin (Courtney); Brenda McMath (Frank) who is like a daughter; grandchildren, Amanda Hopkins (Jason), Brooke Martin, and “Bing” who is like a granddaughter; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Caleb Hopkins; in addition to many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AuthoraCare Collective, 2500 Summit Avenue Greensboro, NC 27405.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Courtney, Amanda and Brooke for their compassion and care of their PawPaw during his last years.
