Obituary: WILBUR RAY “BUD” SHELTON, SR

Wilbur Ray “Bud” Shelton, Sr., 82, left his earthly home on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Clearview Baptist Church with Pastor Bob Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison and all other times at the home.

Mr. Shelton was born on December 7, 1940 in Rockingham County to the late Grover Lee Shelton and Eva Elizabeth Throckmorton Shelton. He was a member of Clearview Baptist Church and a retiree from Unifi, Inc. Bud was known as a “jack of all trades” and excelled at all trades such as carpentry, painting and anything mechanical. He will be remembered for being a compassionate, humble man and his love for his Lord and Savior and his church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years, Nellie Gray Chambers Shelton.

Survivors include his sons, Ray Shelton (Gayle), William Lee Shelton (Sherry), Daniel G. Shelton (Ann) and Todd Shelton (Jennifer); grandchildren, Colby Joyce, Nathan Shelton, Lydia Shelton, Rebecca Edwards (Joseph), Skyla Shelton and Chris Shelton; great-grandchildren, Nate Rumley, Hunter Shelton, Oakley Edwards, Memphis Edwards, Scarlette Edwards, Knox Abernathy and two baby boys due in 2024; sister, Eunice Comer (Bob); brothers, Frank Shelton, Wilson Shelton and Gene Shelton and several loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Clearview Baptist Church, 150 Station Road, Mayodan, NC 27027 and/or Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.

Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
