Obituary: WALTER THOMAS STEPHENS
























































Walter Thomas Stephens departed this life on Tuesday morning, February 13, 2024.

He was a native of Rockingham County, North Carolina and a resident of Caswell County for the majority of his life. Walter was a former employee of Unifi Corporation and was a retired farmer by trade. Spiritually, he was a former member of Gwynn’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Having a passion for nature and agriculture, he enjoyed cultivating the land, raising his chickens and hogs.

We thank God for his beautiful life and precious memories. Glory To God!

His parents, Beatrice Burton Stephens and Walter Ivory Stephens; granddaughter, Lateia Roshika Blackstock; siblings, Ivory Lee Stephens, Percell “Pete” Stephens, Rebecca Stephens Logan, Pauline Stephens Mc Ghee, Linda Sue Graves and Virginia Mae Totten, preceded him in death.

Survivors are: beloved wife of 66 years, Bernice Dejournette Stephens; daughters, Betty Stephens, Yvonne Dillard and Wanda Stephens; sons, William Dejournette, James Stephens and Wendell Stephens; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Stephens Mc Ghee, Louvenia Stephens King and Geraldine Stephens Holmes; brothers, James Edward Stephens (Jackie), Douglas “Junior” Stephens, Robert “Gene” Stephens (Diane) and John Wayne Stephens (Esther); devoted niece and caregiver, Tina King; special family friend, Frances Holmes; sisters-in-law, Mary Courts, Daisy Dejournette, Christine Dejournette, Susan Flacks and Frances Stephens; additional nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2024 from the Gwynn’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 242 Gwynn’s Chapel Road with Dr. John B. Doe presiding and Rev. Jerald Brown, the eulogist. The Family visitation will be Sunday from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. at the church. Public viewing will be Saturday afternoon at Johnson & Sons.
