Vertie Elizabeth Lineberry Mitchell, 91, died on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Moses Cone Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, January 8, 2024 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Westminster Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison.
Mrs. Mitchell was born on March 8, 1932 in Rockingham County to the late John W. Lineberry and Josie Mabe Lineberry. For forty-five years, Vertie worked for Belk Department Store. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and was an active member of the Senior Adult Sunday School class. She enjoyed passionately tending to her flower garden, and listening to gospel music. She will be remembered for her unending love of her special dog, Kane.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Harold Akers Mitchell; son, Terry Anthony Mitchell; brothers, Carl Edward Lineberry, Eli Lineberry, Johnny “Bunny” Lineberry, Hubert Lineberry and Fetzer Lineberry and sisters, Berla Carter and Mary Hawks.
Survivors include her sons, Johnny Allen Mitchell of Kernersville and Harold Lee Mitchell (Vivian) of Thomasville, Georgia; grandchildren, Lori Mitchell, Chad Mitchell (Bonita), Christopher Mitchell, Jordan Williams, Taylor Mitchell, Adam Mitchell and Cody Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Tristan Mitchell, Kynsleigh Williams, Kasen Williams and Mikaela Touchton; great-great-grandchild, Eirik Touchton; sisters, Thelma Wheeler, Lois Purgason and Judy Gwyn and special friend, Jerry Phillips.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, Greensboro, North Carolina.
