The Honorable Stanley Lee Allen of Rockingham County passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. Stan was beloved by many and respected by all, and many people can attest to the impact he had on their lives. The son of the late Reverend J.W. & Molly Travis Allen, Stan learned early the value of serving others, a trait his family and friends have all witnessed.
Stan graduated from Wingate Junior College before completing his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University. He wasn’t shy about his love for the Demon Deacons and wore his old gold and black proudly! After his graduation from WFU, he earned his Juris Doctorate from Campbell University and passed the NC Bar Exam on his first try.
Upon finishing law school in 1983, Stan returned to Rockingham County and began practicing law. In 2005 he was appointed District Court Judge where he served until being appointed Superior Court Judge in 2015, a position he held until his death. Not surprisingly, Stan was just and fair in all aspects of his life. He carried himself with dignity and earned respect through his willingness to teach and mentor both in and out of the courthouse.
Over the past 40 years, Stan’s impact on his community has been felt in so many ways. He was a devoted Christian and faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years. He served as a Sunday school teacher as well serving multiple terms as a deacon and held other leadership positions in the church as well. Stan also wrote the book, Silos and Steeples, the history of Calvary Baptist for the centennial celebration in 2001.
As a true public servant, Stan joined the Northwest Rockingham Fire Department in 1983 and served as a Firefighter, Licensed EMT, Public Information Officer, Board Member, and Treasurer resulting in over 40 years of service to this community. He was also a Board Member of the Madison-Rockingham Rescue Squad. He enjoyed teaching countless individuals through the RCC Basic Law Enforcement Training program for many years and was a good friend to law enforcement.
Stan was a member of the Dan River 129 Masonic Lodge in Madison and he held numerous positions of leadership throughout his many years of membership. He was raised June 18, 1984. He was a two time Master of the Lodge and Secretary of the lodge for sixteen years. He was also District Deputy Grand Master and conducted Masonic last rites at over a hundred funerals.
Stan is survived by his brother Jimmy (Caroline), his sister Melanie, nephews James (Mandy) and Thomas (Ashley), four great nieces, one great nephew, and his loving partner Lisa Dalton. Stan will be missed deeply by all who knew him. He was always ready with a smile, a laugh, and a handshake or a hug. He offered wisdom and helped others in every way he could. He was steady and dependable, selfless and humble and a servant in all aspects of his life.
A celebration of Stan’s life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Reidsville on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church immediately before the service beginning at 11 a.m. A graveside service will be held at Ayersville Baptist Church Cemetery following the service.
