Obituary: STEPHEN BRUCE GRIFFIN
























































Stephen Bruce Griffin passed away at the early age of 31 years old on Sunday, November 5, 2023.

Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 P.M. Monday November 13, 2023 at Augsburg Lutheran Church Winston-Salem, NC. A gathering of friends and family will follow in the fellowship hall of the church.

Stephen was a friend to everyone he met. He was engaging and animated. He was witty and quick with jokes that made everyone laugh around him. History was his passion. He loved to engage in deep intellectual conversations regarding politics, current worldly events, and sports. His heart was big to all those in need and helped every stranger he met, including stray cats.

Stephen graduated from West Forsyth High and attended Western Carolina University, Cape Fear Community College, and Forsyth Tech.

Growing up Stephen loved playing sports. He played for schools that he attended and YMCA leagues. His skill was in basketball. It was his favorite sport and always his choice of game to play. In Stephen’s free time you could always find him dribbling a ball on a court and starting a game with anyone who was willing to play. Stephen was his happiest when he was surrounded by all his family where he was the center of attention with his comedic antics that made everyone laugh. He loved his family dearly and his family loved him deeply.

Stephen thoroughly enjoyed his career in hospitality at the Millenium Center and The Local in Winston Salem. He also enjoyed spending time traveling and working for multiple political campaigns. He currently was employed at BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse.

Stephen is survived by his parents: Bruce Griffin and Colette Tanis Griffin, his sister: Samantha Griffin Donley and her husband John Michael Donley, grandmother, Polly Griffin, his uncles, Stephen Tanis and Richard Garraputa, Mark Griffin and wife Andrea Griffin, David Griffin and wife Leslie Griffin, Ken Griffin and wife Angela Griffin, cousins, Andrew Griffin, Ethan Griffin, Keely Griffin, and Zaddock Griffin.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents: David R. Tanis and Stefanie H. Tanis, and paternal grandfather: Donald Clayton Griffin, DDS.
