Ollie “Sandra” Woods Newman, 74, passed away Monday night, September 11, 2023, at Eden Health & Rehabilitation Center.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, September 22nd, at Mayodan Moravian Church with Reverend Leslie Cox officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 1 – 2 PM, at the church and other times at the home of her daughter, 607 N. 4th Avenue in Mayodan.
Born February 24, 1949, Sandra was the daughter of the late Walter Eugene Woods and Gladys Tilley Woods. She was a member of Mayodan Moravian Church. Sandra was an avid Duke fan and a lover of the beach. She enjoyed shagging and eating good fresh seafood. She was lovingly called “Lucy” by her family due to her larger-than-life comedic side. Sandra loved to have fun!
She is survived by her daughter, Tiffany Newman of Mayodan; granddaughter, Carly Hazelwood of Mayodan; her special daughter-by-choice, Jill Duncan; grandchildren-by-choice, Jonathan Plummer and Chanda Plummer Bowman; great-grandchildren-by-choice, Noah and Ella Rose Bowman; along with her beloved dog, “Baby”.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her infant brother, Ernest E. Woods.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
