Nettie Jean Wilson Vaughn, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Countryside Manor.
A funeral and graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Sardis Primitive Baptist Church.
She was born on September 25, 1930 in Rockingham County to the late Frank Wilson and Nettie Hopper Wilson. Jean was a native of Madison, graduate of Madison High School, and faithful member of Sardis Primitive Baptist Church, where she served as church treasurer for over two decades. Jean centered her life around her family. As the youngest of 12 children who lost her father at age 5 months, she grew up extremely close to her mother, who was her best friend and hero. Lovingly remembered as the ultimate “family-first” stay-at-home mom, she did her best to ensure her family members all remained safe, healthy, and happy. A devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she cared deeply for her family and was a fierce advocate for those she loved.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Talmadge Franklin Vaughn, Jr.; seven brothers; four sisters; and son-in-law, Richard Boyer.
Survivors include her son, Talmadge Franklin “Frank” Vaughn, III and wife, Kelly; son, Todd Wilson Vaughn and wife, Lisa; daughter, Vicki Vaughn Boyer; grandchildren, Lori Gulla Warren, Bradford Gulla, Lauren Vaughn, Taylor Vaughn, Morgan Vaughn Mariani and husband, Andrew, and Nicholas Vaughn; great-grandson, Vincent Warren; brother, Raymond Wilson; and brother-in-law, Philip Vaughn and wife, Nancye.
The family would like to thank the staff at Countryside Manor for helping Jean feel secure and at home there for the past eight and one half years. We would like to express special gratitude to nurses, Shawn, Barbara, and Jean’s “diva twin,” Beth.
Colonial Funeral Home of Madison will be serving the family.
Donations may be made to the Sardis Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Todd Vaughn, 1022 Williams Road, Madison, NC 27025.
