Mary Lois Dixon Rivers, age 94 of Reidsville passed away on Christmas Day surrounded by family at the Gibson House Ancora Compassionate Care of Rockingham County.
Lois was born October 29, 1930 in Siler City and moved to Reidsville as a child. She remained a resident of Reidsville throughout her life. She was the daughter of Frank and Mary Lila White Dixon.
Lois graduated from Reidsville Senior High School in 1948. In 1951 she eloped to marry the love of her life, Alfred Rivers. They enjoyed 61 years of happy marriage together before Alfred’s passing in 2013.
Lois and Alfred had three children, Frankie, Beth (Robertson) and Steve.
Lois worked at Annie Penn Hospital and for various doctors in the community before finishing her career at the City of Reidsville. Before retiring from the City, she did her most important work as matchmaker for her son Steve, and her colleague Terri Stamey, which later resulted in their marriage.
Lois was active in the community and had many hobbies including bowling, playing cards (specifically Canasta). She was a member of Community Baptist Church and later Mt. Hermon Baptist Church. She loved her family and animals dearly. She was proud of her many Bingo wins at Brookdale Senior Living Center and The Landings of Rockingham County where her favorite prize was flashy jewelry.
The family would like to thank Dr. Roy Fagan for caring for Lois over the years; the staff of Brookdale and The Landings for providing loving care and companionship to Lois;. and an additional thanks to the staff of Ancora (formerly Hospice of Rockingham County) who continue to be the best in the world.
Remaining to cherish Lois’ memory are her sister Brenda Grogan; children Frankie Rivers, Beth Rivers Robertson and husband Donnie, Steve Rivers and wife Terri; grandchildren Leigh Robertson and husband Nick Lauretta, Kamron Robertson and husband Khi Downey, Dixon Rivers, Staci Austin and husband Rick, and Reid Rivers. Great grandchildren RyLee Rivers, Lillie Rivers, Andrew Austin, Zinn Lauretta, Asa Lauretta, Evelyn Rivers and Norah Rivers; Brandon Vuksan, Michael Peralta-Martinez; Nephews Mark Grogan and Craig Grogan; Dear friend Colleen Childrey.
