Obituary: LOU LAWSON JONES
























































Lou Lawson Jones, 88, of Eden passed peacefully surrounded by family on February 15, 2023 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. There will be no formal service or visitation at this time, per her request.

Lou was born to her parents, Pate Gravely and Virgie Turner Lawson in the Draper section of Eden on November 5, 1934. Lou was a member of the first senior cheerleading squad and graduating class of Tri-City High School (now Morehead) in 1953. She worked in the General Offices of Fieldcrest Mills until she became one of the first salaried employees of Miller Brewing Company where she worked until her retirement. She also worked part-time for many years at People’s Drug Store.

Lou developed a love for square dancing, and many of her adventures and memories involved her petticoats and pantaloons. She and her much beloved husband, Jim, loved square dancing so much that they chose to wed at a square dance. Jim was a square dance caller, and they traveled the states for many dances and conventions. Jim and Lou moved to Sunset Beach, NC, where they lived for many years prior to Jim’s passing.

Lou was predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Delsie Hopkins, Thelma Cherry and Becky Murphy; her brother, Lonnie Lawson, her grandson, Nickolas McCollum, and her much beloved husband, James (Jim) E. Jones.

She is survived by her daughters – Teresa Stophel McCollum and Wanda Stophel, both of Eden; her stepchildren- Mike Jones of Leland, NC; Ashley Gillespie (Rob) of Browns Summit, NC; former daughter-in-law, Fran Jones of Lexington, NC, grandchildren, Leslie Blackwell of Browns Summit, NC, and Shannon (Carlisle) Pointer of Cedartown, Ga., and her great grandchildren, Mikayla, Tristan, Remy, Hayden, and Juliet, as well as many extended family members and longtime friends.

Friends and family will gather in Sunset Beach, at a time to be decided, to reunite Lou with her beloved husband, Jim and their beloved dog, Lady.
