Obituary: JOHN “JOHNNIE” H. GRIFFIN JR.
























































John Hampton Griffin Jr., 98, of Reidsville passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024.

A funeral service will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Paul Lutrell and Pastor Chad Williams officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Mount Carmel Church Cemetery.

Johnnie was born in Rockingham County to the late John H Griffin Jr. and Lily G. Griffin. He retired in 1983 from American Tobacco after 35 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, golf and antique cars. In his life, he restored 6 antique cars and was a charter member of EZ Street Cruisers of Reidsville. Johnnie was a self-taught guitarist and loved to play music with his family. He passed that love of music on to his daughter and grandchildren. He was a very active member in Community Baptist Church for many years, where he was a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Trustee. His most important decision was in 1946 when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He loved his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Vergie Stone Griffin; brothers, Charlie, Taylor, and Russell Griffin; sisters, Vergie G. Brown, Carilee G. Roberts, Lovenuia G. Bates and Maudean G. Reece.

He is survived by his daughter, Denise G. Brown and husband, Gary; grandsons, Nathan Brown and wife, Melissa, John Mark Brown and wife, Nicki, Stephen Brown and wife, Christa; great grandchildren, Allyson, Jenna, Johnnie, Raegan, Ella, and Abby Brown, Katelyn Brown Ramey and husband, Chase; sisters-in-law, Margaret Griffin, India Stone and June Stone; special friend, Ila McKee as well as a large and loving group of extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Brookedale of Reidsville and special sitters for their kind and compassionate care over the last few weeks. The family would also like to thank AuthoraCare for their help during this final transition.
