Joanne Sizemore Chilton, 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 11, 2023 at the Gibson House of Rockingham County.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 14th at True Gospel Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friend’s Friday evening, 6 – 8 PM, at the funeral home and other times at her residence.
Joanne was born December 22, 1940 to the late Melvin Earl Mabe and Lillie Manuel Nelson. She is a native of Rockingham County and was a retired supervisor from Gem Dandy, Inc. In asking Joanne how she enjoyed retirement she would always reply fine and dandy, retired from Gem Dandy. She was also a volunteer for hospice for over 20 years and also volunteered for Red Cross.
In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her husband Billy Sizemore; brothers, Frank Mabe and Ray Mabe and sisters, Jacqueline McHone, Geraldine Clark and Christine Roberts.
Survivors include her sons, Terry Tilley (Teresa) of Madison and Ronald Tilley (Ann) of Mayodan; grandson Adam Tilley (Ashleigh) also of Mayodan; two great-grandchildren, Leile Hager and Jameson Smothers; sisters, Shirley White and Pam Williams (Tommy) and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Linda for all her love, care and support she showed Joanne. It was greatly appreciated.
