Bobby Shumake, 87, of Madison passed peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, May 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, at his home.
Bobby was born January 8, 1937, to James Wesley and Helen Matthewson Shumake in the Bald Hill community of Madison. He was a 1955 graduate of Madison High School. He married his best friend and love of his life, Dorothy Coleman, on July 8, 1956. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962, and the United States Army Reserve from 1962 to 1964. He was a supervisor at Belews Creek Steam Station and retired in 1994 after 21 years of service. He was a long-time member of Mayodan Moravian Church. Bobby was a loving family man and was devoted to his wife of 67 years and “his girls”, Kim and Lisa. He was a proud papa and loved his grandchildren with all his heart.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Becky Lemons and Francile Cardwell.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Coleman Shumake; daughters, Kim Caudle and husband Rob of Pine Hall, and Lisa Shumake of the home; grandchildren, Ethan Trogdon and partner Mariama Alizor-Ortega of Las Vegas, NV, Dalton Berry of Pine Hall, Emily Nix and husband Bryan of Florida; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Sterling Nix; brother, Gary Shumake, Sr. of Stokesdale; sister-in-law, Jeanette Albert of Stokesdale; and brother-in-law, Joseph Raymond Coleman, Jr. of Mayodan; many nieces and nephews; and his grandpaws, Charlie, Kira, and Sebastian.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison and other times at the residence.
While flowers are welcome, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ancora Compassionate Care Hospice, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
