Obituary: HENRY LEWIS SOUTHERN, SR
























































Henry Lewis Southern, Sr., 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Wesley Long Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Nathanael Putnam and Reverend Larry Wray officiating. Interment will follow in the Kallam Grove Christian Church Cemetery with military honors by the Rockingham County Honor Guard and the North Carolina Army National Guard. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home and all other times at the home of Teresa Barker.

Mr. Southern was born on August 14, 1936 in Stokes County to the late Jesse Southern and Rosie Emma Bullins Southern. Henry served his country honorably in the United States Army and for thirty-nine years, he worked in textiles. He was a member of Kallam Grove Christian Church and enjoyed farming. Henry will be remembered for being a dedicated blood donor and for his warm personality.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Foulks Southern and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Foulks and Elmira Foulks, also known as “Pops” and “Ma.”

Survivors include his children, Teresa Barker (Mike), Cindy Kallam (Tom) and Henry Southern, Jr. (Julie); grandchildren, Tracey Tucker, Christy Locklear (Paul), Dwayne Kallam (Christa), Randy Kallam (Becca), Jessica Smith (Jose), Brittany Southern (Jasmine), R.J. Southern (Willow), Josh Southern and Alyvia Southern; great-grandchildren, Haley Tucker, Hannah Tucker, Chase Tucker (Havana), Jordon Locklear (Rachel), Brendon Locklear, Nathan Qurioz, Gabby Qurioz, Alexa Qurioz, Sophia Qurioz, Maddie Kallam, Michael Kallam, Eli Kallam and Emory Kallam; three great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert Foulks (Sherrie) and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
