They lost their first-born Alejandra Chavez. She was a devoted Aunt to Rosa Palacios whom she helped raise after losing her sister Penny Palacios and brother-in-law. She’s preceded in death by her mother Virginia, sister Judy Nelson-Starling and brother Randy Gentry. Besides her husband and children she is survived by her father Calvin Nelson (Linda); brothers Eugene Nelson (Teresa) and Ricky Gentry (Annette); sister Ruby Frances and five grandchildren Sofia Welch, Cody Smith, Gabriela Weatherford, Wyatt Bagley, and Marley Smith.
The family asks that no one come in traditional black attire. She always told her children that she didn’t want a traditional funeral. She would have loved everyone to come as they are.
The family wants to thank the wonderful doctors and staff from Novant Health that helped take care of her throughout her battle. Also a thank you to the staff from Trellis Supportive Care that helped with her care at home.
Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel is serving the family.
