Gerald Gene Thornton, Sr., 77, died on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at his home.
The family will hold a private memorial service in the near future.
Mr. Thornton was born on May 15, 1946 in Kennett, Missouri to the late William Coy Thornton and Margaret R. Jackson. For fifty-two years, he called the West Fork community in Virginia home. He was a Vietnam veteran who served his country honorably in the United States Army and retired as a welder. Gerald enjoyed fishing, as well as trips to the beach and mountains, however his greatest joy was being a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will forever be remembered as a hard worker and a family man.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by numerous siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Wilson Thornton; children, James Thornton (Belinda), Deborah Tilley (James, Jr.), Gerald Thornton, Jr. (Stacey) and Angela Heath (Jeff); grandchildren, Aleise Thornton, Hayden Thornton, Kooper Thornton, James Thornton, Jr. (Zoe), Bryce Heath and Mason Heath and great-granddaughter, Charlotte Paige Thornton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AuthoraCare Hospice, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
