Mrs. Elnora Turner Johnson peacefully departed this life on Saturday morning, July 29, 2023.
Born on April 15, 1930 in Reidsville, North Carolina, she was the offspring of the late John and Claudia Turner. She received her formal education in Reidsville. As a young woman, she married the late James Howard Johnson, and they were together for 62 years prior to his death. They were blessed with two children, Leon and Angelia. She devoted herself to being a wife and mother, who loved her family deeply and took care of her flowers. She also enjoyed listening to gospel music and playing the piano. If she entered a room with a piano, you would shortly after see her playing that piano and singing a gospel song. Elnora accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age and raised her children in the church. She was a faithful member of The First Baptist Church in Yanceyville, and an associate member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Reidsville where her husband Howard and daughter Angelia were members. On Sundays, she would leave one service and rush to the second one. She had a sweet spirit and was always willing to help her family members and neighbors. She was known for her delicious sweet potato and coconut custard pies which were always in demand.
In addition to her parents, husband and daughter, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel and Johnnie, and four sisters, Lennie, Corrina, Sally and Lou Evy.
She is survived by her son, Leon (Mona) of Rahway, New Jersey; her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Crystal) of Colonia, New Jersey and Christopher (Grace) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; her great-grandchildren, Harriet-Noni and Kazi of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Jeffrey, Jr. of Colonia, New Jersey; her nieces, Shirley and Cynthia; her nephews, William, John Elvis and Richard; her great-nieces, Lashwanda and Latosha; a great-great-niece, Kemi, all of Reidsville; son-in-law, Wilbert Williamson; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 5, 2023 from the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 9800 Highway 158 West. The family visitation will be Saturday from 12:30 until 1:00 p.m. at the church. Public viewing will be Friday afternoon at Johnson & Sons, 115 Holderby Street.
