Edith Thacker Hutchens, 76, of Thomasville, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Thomasville Medical Center.
Edith was born in Henry County, Virginia on June 14, 1947, to the late Samuel and Eva Thacker. She worked for Norvell Tent in Greensboro for 22 years and later became the biscuit maker for Hardee’s in Eden. Following disability in 2001, she has fought and endured many illnesses which she never allowed to slow her down. She was an unbelievably strong woman and was known as a true fighter right to the end.
In the period she grew up in, everything was fried in Crisco and Lard, and from that, one of her favorite foods was fried bread. She also enjoyed baking cakes. She loved “girl time”, often spending time with her lifelong friend Faye and her close friend, Bonnie Gilbert who preceded her in death in 2017. Edith adored her granddaughter, Harper Rae and referred to her as “Grammy’s Girl”. She also loved playing cards such as rummy and UNO and recently played dominos with her partner, Roger. Her lifelong hobby was embroidery, often making many pillowcases and table runners. She loved flowers and always had a few cats running around.
Edith loved the Lord and faithfully attended both Stoneville Pentecostal and Deep Springs Baptist Church’s before moving to Thomasville. She had recently shared a story with her son of her and her daddy both being saved on the same Sunday and shortly after, they were both baptized together in the river at Settlers Bridge in Stoneville. The family is thankful she was able to witness her own son and his families’ baptisms in November just as she had done with her dad. They find great comfort in knowing she is now rejoicing with her parents and her precious daughter, Tonya.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tonya Lynette Williams and her sister, Doris Thacker.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Anthony Williams (Gina) of Stoneville; her lifelong partner, Roger Nieman and family of Thomasville; her stepson, Randy Hutchens; granddaughter, Harper Williams; a step grandson, Noah Dorsett; and her best friend and family, Emma Faye Baughn.
Ray Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Edith Hutchens and all are invited to share memories and offer condolences at www.rayfuneralhome.com
