Obituary: DOROTHY GOODWYN YATES
























































Dorothy “Dottie” Goodwyn Yates, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 15, 2023, at her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 20th, at Mt. Bethel Church Cemetery on Highway 65 in Summerfield. There will be no formal visitation; however, family and friends are invited to visit at her home.

Dorothy was born January 20, 1938 in Dundas, Virginia to the late M. M. Goodwyn and Margaret Daniel Goodwyn. She was a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music. Dorothy was very talented and she shared that talent and her love of music with many people throughout the years, including piano students, multiple churches where she played and served as choir director, along with her local school system in years past. She most recently attended Kallam Grove Christian Church.

She is survived by her son, Robert “Bob” Yates, Jr. and wife, Marlene; daughter, Sabrina Craft; two grandchildren, Robert “Bobby” Yates, III and wife, Brenna and James Benjamin Yates and wife, Katelynn; four great grandchildren, Robert “Glenn” Yates IV, Greyson Stone Yates, Mylah Grey Yates and Colton James Yates; sister, Joan Goodwyn Coiner; nephews, Nicholas Coiner and wife, Brittany, Lee Goodwyn and wife, Mary and nieces, Kim Goodwyn and Pam Goodwyn Fannell and husband, Neal.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Marguerite “Marri” Adell Yates; brother, Courtney Lee Goodwyn; sister-in-law, Mary Goodwyn and brother-in-law, N. Cyrus Coiner
