Obituary: DONALD RAY GUNN
























































Donald Ray Gunn, 86, passed away Wednesday morning, January 10, 2024, at Gibson House in Reidsville (formerly Hospice of Rockingham County)

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, January 16th, at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Pleasantville Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 1 – 2 PM) in the chapel and other times at the home of his daughter.

Born November 22, 1937 in Rockingham County, NC, Don was the son of Walter Allen Gunn and Mittie Barrett Gunn. He was a retiree of Macfield / Unifi working 45 years in textiles. He enjoyed Tarheel basketball, Yankees baseball, crossword puzzles, golf, landscaping, spending time with his grandchildren and telling Dad jokes.

Don is survived by his three sons, Keith Ray Gunn, Derek Michael Gunn (Jelita) and Roman Macfield Gunn; daughter, Farrah Gunn Frazier (Brent); seven grandchildren, Jessie Taylor, Lucas Gunn, Ian Gunn, Danielle Frazier, Colbie Frazier, Brian Mayton and Brandy Dennison; brother, Nelson Gunn (Mona); along with two sisters, Brenda Ward (Bill) and Jewell Dull (Larry).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sonja Smothers Gunn and two of his brothers, Curtis Gunn and Walter Gunn, Jr.

The family would like to offer their special thanks to his loving caregivers, Pam Martin, Dawn Martin, Tracy Kelsey, Darla Carter, Amelia Williams and Rickie Bowers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
