Our Father and Friend, Oscar Otis Tucker, Jr. struggled to find comfort for a long time after a bout with heart disease. He walked with the Lord in mind and talked about the Lord every day. He also talked about World War II in which he served from 1944 to 1948. His stories about the war made him popular among his friends. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.
He was born to the late Oscar Otis Tucker Sr. and Jennie Bell Lee Tucker. Oscar’s education began at Lincoln Elementary School in Ruffin NC and ended at Booker T. Washington High School in Reidsville, NC. He received certificates in dye techniques from North Carolina State University. Before entering the Armed Forces, Oscar spent a year or so at North Carolina A & T State University in the veterinary program. He loved animals and liked to talk about animal behavior.
He traveled to many places, met many people, and enjoyed his favorite pastime sport (golf) until he could no longer play. He received many awards.
Oscar met Earlie Miller at Lincoln School and carried her books everyday as they walked to and from school. After returning safely from World War II, he married her and they produced three children: Brenda Sue Tucker Purcell (deceased), Norma Jean Tucker McLauchlin (Allen) of Fayetteville, NC and Karen Angelia Tucker of Reidsville, NC. Surviving grandchildren are Oscar Gregory Purcell, Radiah Cerice Spleen (Brenda), and Allen Scott Tucker McLauchlin (Norma). Also surviving are five great grandchildren; three sisters; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
