Zane was a proud member of the Northwest Rockingham Fire Department, where he served for twenty-five years, until his retirement. One of his proudest moments was serving Rockingham County as their elected Commissioner from 2012 until 2016. Up until his health issues he loved building the daylily farm, Amanda’s Daylilies, that he and Amanda started in 2001 in hopes to carry them through their retirement years. Zane was a member of the First Baptist of Mayodan.
The family wishes to thank Zane’s wonderful healthcare team, Dr. Kirkland Dickey, Tina, Jennifer, Tanya and Judy from Adoration Home Health and Leandra from Ancora Hospice, who all assisted with Zane’s care over the years and in his final days.
Zane’s children would like to publicly thank our wonderful mom for all of her sacrifices and for standing by daddy’s side and showing everyone the true definition of loving your spouse through sickness and health. She was the ultimate caregiver down to his final moments and for that she will always be our HERO.
A service will be held at a later date when the daylilies are in bloom. The family will have a private viewing and will receive friends at the home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Mayodan or to the Northwest Rockingham Fire Department.
