Obituary: BILLY JOE WITHERS
























































Mr. Billy Joe Withers passed on Friday, September 30, 2022 at Beacon Place in Greensboro, North Carolina. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at McLaurin Memorial Chapel with family visitation one half hour prior to the service.

Billy Joe Withers was born on October 6, 1948 to the late Joe Arthur Withers and Bessie Lee Williamson Withers in Rockingham County. He was a native of both Rockingham and Caswell Counties and attended Caswell County High School and later earned his GED in 1971. He volunteered for service in the U.S. Army and was honorably retired with the rank of SP5 along with other medals and accomplishments. He was later employed by Robert Lee Carter Trucking Co. as well as the Madison N.C. Landfill until his retirement.

An avid Washington Redskins fan, he also loved fishing, cooking, gardening, and hanging with his friends. He also accepted Christ into his life at an early age.

In addition to his parents, beloved grandparents, Johnny Williamson and Annie Badgett Williamson; siblings, Lorenza Withers and Lelia Mae Withers; niece, Alexandria A. Withers; nephew, Courtney L. Withers; and brother-in-law, Earl J. Cobb preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish precious memories: wife, Audrey Faye Thaxton Withers; stepson, Michael Travis Traxton; siblings, Ruby Withers, Naomi W. Cobb, Regina W. Blackwell (Ernest), Sylvia Withers, Bernice W. Brown, Robert Withers (Shenita) and Rhonda Withers; beloved aunt, Edna Williamson Farrish; sisters-in-law, Brenda Russell, Teresa Thaxton, Abigail Thaxton and Willette Hopper; special friends, Walter Williamson (“Lil’ Walt), Dale Herbin (“Blue”) and Larry Maynard; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ashton and Yolanda McLaurin and the staff of the McLaurin Funeral Home are serving the family. Covid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
