Medicine Cabinet Locks & Lockboxes Offered By Rockingham County

Rockingham County Government News Release • February 7, 2024 • Rebekah Pegram, PIO

Wentworth, NC: Rockingham County has received lockboxes and cabinet locks from Insight Human Services, as part of the Lock Your Med’s campaign with the intention of saving lives through the prevention of drug misuse.

Rockingham County is making the lockboxes and cabinet locks available to encourage people to secure and take regular inventory of their medication. Most households have prescription drugs readily available. Through this campaign, Rockingham County is participating to limit unintentional suppliers and keep prescription drugs out of the wrong hands.

“We know that prevention is a great way to get ahead of any problem,” Interim Public Health Administrator, Lisa Ellington said, “offering our residents this free resource is the first step in preventing a long-term addiction and hopefully save a life.”

According to the Lock Your Meds campaign, 44.9% of misused medications come from family and friends, not a stranger, drug dealer or the internet. Lock Your Meds is a universal campaign, created by the National Family Partnership, aimed at preventing prescription drug misuse, which is the fastest growing substance misuse problem in America.

Anyone interested in obtaining a lockbox or cabinet lock may come to Rockingham County Governmental Center at 371 NC HWY 65, Reidsville. A limited supply of lockboxes and cabinet locks will be located at the main desk in the lobby, while supplies last. One per household, please.
